Postgraduate Program in Epidemiology and One Health

cabra

Our graduate program in Epidemiology and Single Health has more than 41 years of history in training human resources of excellence and high-quality academic and scientific production, actively collaborating with the development of public and animal health.

Although our team of advisors is mainly made up of professors from the Department of Preventive Veterinary Medicine at FMVZ-USP, where the program is based, it also has advisors from the USP School of Medicine, the USP School of Animal Science and Food Engineering, the USP Institute of Biomedical Sciences, the Butantan Institute, the UNESP-Jaboticabal School of Veterinary Medicine and the Pasteur Institute of São Paulo. Around 60% of our supervisors are CNPq research productivity fellows.

As of March 2023, our epidemiology team joined the newly created Collaborating Centre for Economics of Animal Health in the Americas Region of the World Organization for Animal Health (formerly OIE).

Our objectives are to train human resources to:

  1. develop teaching and research activities related to preventive veterinary medicine, veterinary public health, food hygiene of animal origin and animal welfare;
  2. plan, guide the execution and evaluate animal health and zoonosis control programs in rural and urban areas, especially to work in official Brazilian veterinary services, formulating and managing public policies capable of solving complex health problems.
  3. work in the national industry to develop new technologies and original solutions applicable to disease control and eradication programs and the production of safe food for animals and humans.
